Warriors bring fight against children's cancer to Northern Luzon
Cancer does
not only strike adults. Cancer also hurts and kills our most
valuable treasure, our children. Everyday, at least 8
Filipino kids as young as a year old, die of cancer. Many
deaths are due to delayed detection, inadequate treatment and/or
unaffordable costs of medication and treatment. Working
together, we can help kids beat cancer. While cancer is the
Big C, it can be beaten by a Bigger C - Christ.
This is the
message that James Auste, brain cancer survivor turned biker and
eleven other young volunteer cancer warriors, will bring as they
bike and hold forums through 14 towns and cities in Northern Luzon
from August 31 to September 15.
To
commemorate the International Children's Cancer Month which
is celebrated in September and continue its FIGHT of helping kids
beat cancer, Cancer Warriors Foundation launched Bike for Life II,
Northern Luzon in Fort Bonifacio, Global city on August 31,
Saturday. Bike for Life I was held in June 2002, cancer
Survivors Month and covered 15 towns and cities in Southern Luzon
and Visayas.
The kick of
ceremonies was built around assembling a bike, the symbol of
Cancer Warriors journey of hope and life. Mr. Alvarez, PLDT
VP for Marketing was on hand to affirm PLDT's concern and
commitment to help give kids with cancer another chance at
life. With the continued support of its founding partners,
PLDT and SARMAN-BANDAG, corporate champions SMART, Bonifacio
Development Corporation: The Fort, Viva Mineral Water, Caltex, New
World Marriot Renaissance Hotel, Ford Philippines, INQ7NET,
BikeRoom, Whammos Snack Cakes as well as a host of partner
academic institutions, non-government organizations, local
government units and church groups, the young volunteers of Cancer
Warriors believe that this journey of hope and faith will spell
the difference in the lives of children fighting cancer.
